SYNOPSIS
Broadway legend Audra McDonald takes on one of the most iconic roles in musical theatre history—Rose, the ultimate stage mother—in this powerful new revival of Gypsy. Hailed as one of the greatest American musicals ever written, Gypsy features an unforgettable score by Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim, and a book by Arthur Laurents that captures both the grit and the glory of show business. Set in the 1920s and ’30s, Gypsy follows Rose as she drives her daughters, June and Louise, across the country in pursuit of vaudeville fame. Fiercely determined and endlessly resourceful, Rose will stop at nothing to see her children succeed—even as the world around her changes and her dreams slip further from reach. When the family’s act falls apart, the shy and overlooked Louise transforms into the legendary burlesque star Gypsy Rose Lee, forcing both mother and daughter to reckon with ambition, identity, and love. With showstopping numbers like “Everything’s Coming Up Roses,” “Let Me Entertain You,” and “Rose’s Turn,” this Gypsy promises a revelatory performance from Audra McDonald and a production that illuminates Rose not just as a mother on a mission, but as a woman chasing an impossible dream in an unforgiving world. Raw, riveting, and full of heart, this revival reimagines Gypsy as the story of one woman’s relentless pursuit of purpose—and the price of wanting the world for those you love.
